Here is an update..The truck may be down 2 to 3 more weeks by the time the parts arrive to Freightliner and the tech gets all the wiring put together. It could be sooner if all goes well, but at this point I don't plan on anything going well. I have been stuck in a hotel all this time, now have to add 2 weeks to the stay.
Total bill at Freightliner will be around $12,000 and the bill I had to pay the crook was $5,500 and all I can think was that u-joint I had put on at the T/A was not done properly and this is the ripple effect from that repair.
The T/A replaced the number 1 u-joint on my driveline and now...

This is why I always had a plan on any sort of catastrophic failure to have my truck towed home to a trusted shop of my choosing. Maybe it could have ended up saving money or maybe not. But at least there would be some sort of peace of mind about the situation. If I were you I'd rent a car or ride a bus home instead of paying another 2 weeks motel bill. Shop # 1 would suffer some sort of $$$$ mischief legal or otherwise robbing me of 5k. A haversack full of roofing nails sprinkled in the parking lot maybe, who can really say? Shop # 2 really seems to be taking advantage but not much to do at this point with that other than try to negotiate some better deal maybe.

I don't recall seeing a year/model on the truck, but it seems like your repair quotes are getting into the total loss territory. Especially when you figure in loss of revenue.
Just saying, it may be time to cut your losses and shoot that one in the head. Find a cheap, older truck and start getting some money coming in while that turd works it's way through the process.SL3406 Thanks this. -
To what RC says, when our '04 Century broke down in KC, it was driven into a dealer that, while not being a total ripoff like the OP here has dealt with, they were clearly taking advantage. I paid their $600 bill for what little they had done and moved it out of there. Fortunately still under it's own power (blown head gasket that turned into an inframe).
After some calling around, I got referred to a hole-in-the-wall shop in KC,KS that turned out to be most excellent when I elected to get the repairs done right there. Other options offered by people I knew were two separate offers to loan me an rgn trailer to hitch to my other truck to go get it and haul it back to a shop closer to home. There's some real good people in this industry to offset the few crooks out there.GearWarrant and rollin coal Thank this. -
This could have been caused by a counterfeit u-joint. I had a front wheel bearing go bad, it turned out to be counterfeit. If this was the case, TA would never have known. Counterfeit parts show up

Just a hard lesson learned....I got a rental truck and am continuing on the road until the repairs are made... Freightliner said it could be two weeks to get completed, which I think mostly is waiting on the wiring parts to get there. I would think the tech could have the wiring done in a couple days and the driveline done in a couple hours. I hope that it will not be two weeks but the way things have been going I expect it to be longer.
The carrier I am leased to has been real helpful with getting the rental truck and will help me out with other things to get this truck fixed.RedForeman and OldHasBeen Thank this. -
That's really good to hear most carriers these days don't care about there drivers sounds like you have a good one...

Another update...today is 5/31/14 and the truck is still down...Waiting on a part to get here from Freightliner plant in Brazil---believe it or not and until that part gets here the tech can't start the job because all the wiring leads into and from that harness coming from Brazil. I have PENSKE rental truck to work with in the mean time but I would prefer that my truck would be done already, I think it would be faster if I walked to Brazil and picked up that part and brought it back to the Hillbillies in Mobile working on the truck.

you ever wonder if may be no one wants to fix your truck????
cuz that's what it's looking like.
