Natural disasters--such as a flood, hurricane, or blizzard--often come without warning. Stocking non-perishable food items ahead of time (and choosing wisely what you include) will help you weather the storm with less stress.

Thank for the link K/C. Most drivers should make a emergency pack from items on the list. You never think about stuff like this until the first time you get snowed in, or break down out in the middle of no-where. Both happened to me & thanks to good planning I was prepared.

i spent about 3 or 4 days living here at home in winter after a big ice storm with no power. drank water, ate whatever i couldnt find that didnt require cooking. was it safe to stay? no idea, didnt care. wasn't leaving the cats home alone since they were unwelcome at hotels and anywhere else i could have gone. lots o blankets and the cats curled up close. everyone stayed warm.

though i lost weight. probably because i didnt eat like i normally did plus burned alot of energy to keep my body heat up. so maybe it was actually good for me.
