Yes there are some bad schools out there.. but I take all of these "I didn't learn nuttin" posts with a big chuck of salt.. There are a small percentage of people who CAN NOT LEARN this in the time allotted and to think that any instructor can teach a person to be able to back and back well is just insanity.. Backing is a skillset that has to be learned the way the individual perceives the process.. An instructor can give guidance and help try and get the student to "see" and grasp the concept.. until the concept "clicks" the students are frustrated and take it out on everyone... been there done that.. have been verbally threatened several times by students who just could not grasp the concept that day.. eventually most of them get to that point where the concept "clicks", but until cognition sets in... the instructors are pretty helpless to MAKE people understand the concept.. Only backing makes people better backers..

The trainers at my small private PTDI approved school were so bad, and dangerous, that I complained to the owner - who didn't believe me.
Still, I had paid thousands, and in the toxic atmosphere, he agreed to train me himself for a week before I tested out.
It was like night and day, and I passed with flying colors. A professional trainer makes all the difference.
Once you get the CDL, try to keep practising, even if you don't get a job right away. Rent from Ryder - whatever - for a weekend.
The carrier trainers may be worse than at the school. I have been there. Incredible odds for failure OTR.
Become such a good driver, no one can mess with you. It is not enough to 'pass'. Never stop training yourself!
As for pre-trip -- if they teach you by rote, and you don't know what you are really looking for, you may know what it is,
and where it is, but preventing problems on the road doesn't follow from that 100% perfect score. Again, beware - carrier trainers don't
bother doing pre-trips, except banging tires. No joke.
Advice - skip the lawsuit & use the time/money to go to a community college. Couch-surf if you must, but it's the only good training left. Be sure to audit truck mechanics,
if you can.
And after the CDL, be smart and get a local job - to save enough money to get your own solid used truck, and your own authority and permits.
Start learning the ropes now - load boards, brokers, etc. The country is going to see experienced truckers dying out soon. #If you are good,
and stay sane, you will be in demand.
Good luck. -

Find a decent, reliably fast get-away truck and you can then FORGE/STEAL licenses, authorities, insurance / medical cards permits etc just about everything else . . . Keep a .38cal under the seat and SHOOT anyone with a computer who happens to stop or challenge you?
'Law Enforcement' knew better in the ole' days 'ignorance was bliss' you speed governed, web-based schoolies have become easy prey and with no-one running bad driving four wheelers OFF THE ROAD anymore of course traffic 'safety' conditions are worse!
PS: oh yea the CORRECT DRUGS (ie: the murderous psychotic 'Prozac') can also help your motivation, determination to SUCCEED but of course it only works best in 'group situations' so screaming like a manic first will definitely garner more ATTENTION!
Am told 40% of the kids on school buses are now on psychotropic 'behavior' drugs of one sort or another SO ALSO WELCOME TO THE FUTURE CEL-PHONE INDUCED ZOMBIE FOUR-WHEELERS OF TOMMORROW! )Last edited: Oct 24, 2013
