Just a regular flatbed and I use two chains and 2 binders and straps over it. Also on a loaded container all 4 corners must be touching the deck....

Depends on loaded or empty, I secure at the bottom either way. Here how I do it, you can push on the top of the container with a loader and it’ll tip the trailer. You can hear the blocks cracking if you put enough on the binders.

I stand corrected... you can secure to the bottom.. only problem was it wasnt tight as I saw it teetering back and forth..

The bottom works if it's done right. If you look at the picture posted by @johndeere4020 , you'll note that the securement point is close enough that his setup is pulling down pretty well. If he were using points further away, he would have little to no downward force to stop what you are describing from happening.

I’m amazed at drivers that hook a chain in the bottom hole and run the chain across to the other side. That will do nothing to prevent that box from tipping.

I use 2 chains and 2 straps on 20' cans, 4 straps for 40'. Chain the corners at the bottom and throw the straps over. If it's a light 40' put dunnage under the rear corners. It's not that hard to figure out.

I use straps and chains on my tag trailer because my chain system doesn’t work in it.

What I've done, that makes sense to me, is to do a teardrop through the block and around the spools/stake pocket. This locks it in place like a regular lock would. The chain goes through the holes, and the hook links back to the front/rear of the container. Then when it's tensioned it's not moving and there's not a lot of chain to stretch to allow movement.

THAT is exactly how it was done on the swift truck I saw.

    Oxbow and G13Tomcat Thank this.
