I wasn’t happy about it, luckily I’m training a new guy so I wasn’t on it.
I will refuse a pipe load that needs to be tarped unless they want to pay me 300

Most potable water pipe requires a smoke tarp, after a few years of brokers claiming the tarp pay was in the rates, a smoke tarp was the only one I carried on my truck.
I would use it a lot of times when it was not required, it was quick and easy to slap on and saved a bunch of fuel depending on the load.
I loaded some 54 inch concrete lined water pipe in cali, going to a new water main they were installing in elpaso. One joint to a truck, it had shrink wrap on the ends, but still required a smoke tarp. i was loading right after lunch, the driver that loaded right before didn't have a smoke tarp I guess, so he tarped the whole pipe, using both tarps. I was just hanging out so hepled him, then he pulled over to a water hose and started wetting it down as good as he could, hot and black tarps, it was drying as fast as he could wet it. lol
Iask why and he said they told him he had to wet it down before he could leave.
I went in the lunchroom and asked what the heck that was all about. They died laughing and told me you had to cut a hole in the shrinkwrap on the back and put 3 or 4 gallons inside, it will migrate around the whole pipe and keep the concrete from cracking. lolsinglescrewshaker, Lepton1, Nostalgic and 5 others Thank this. -
