The step deck is snapped because its a huge point load on shorter height frame rails. Steps always have to taper up over the axle for low height. Pierced construction crossmembers for low deck height means the vertical flange is compromised in its most insufficient location. It may have survived if the coil was up front and the whole frame could spring more but wont scale.

The bottom trailer sure looks like a ravens fleet hawk to me. Flats have sufficient vertical flange but theyre very thin aluminum and cracks start at the crossmember pierce and do not stop via cyclic vibration. Our ravens are shot and plated. No heavy point loads. Must be spread out.

Imo monster coils should go on a steel flatbed.

thats because he spanned that whole sink hole, spread axle was no support, bridged from drives to last axle

Youre right, the front axle definitely fell out from under the frame when it went in the water. The frame sagged to follow it down. The bottom flange exceeded its tensile strength and went boing.

I'll bet the vertical member was already cracked before though.

Those might become permit loads on steel trailers for some drivers.

Yeah but a permit is easier to get on the fly than your doubles license! Wonder how straight that two piece spread goes down the road :p

I wonder how much of this sort of thing originates from a truck owner not doing his or her due diligence with regards to the ratings of their equipment.
