I'd have to get pretty creative with 5 on the deck. I think I only have 11 chains and 13 binders.

i have 20 just for that reason. And yeah it looks really funny with 1/2 inch binders on a 4000 Lb machine.

It does say though, that the minimum 4 points, must be as close to the ends as possible, or use the tie downs on the equipment. Every military vehicle I've hauled has tie downs front and rear, and direct securement is obvious.

I usually look for tie downs on minis that let you run chain straight from one side to the other. One chain and 2 binders per machine.

I’m not sure what point you’re making. He had 2 chains on each end using the d rings on/near the bumper. That covers:minimum 4 points, close to the end, and factory tie down locations.

I always thought 4 points....meant 4 binders? He could have used 2 chains and 4 binders for the rear and the same for the front. It appears to me that the chains on the rear are pulling against themselves. Legal or not, not the way I would've done things. That doesn't make it wrong but, that does look wrong in a few ways.

The way that thats loaded 1 chain and 1 binder on each side should suffice but the chain has to be looped around the hooks on the load to ''create'' 2 separate contact points.
The extra chain in the middle means nothing then.

You pointed out that there is no requirement for direct securement. I was just trying to show how someone could interpret the rules, to believe 4 direct securement points is a requirement.

No. The indirect securement method is outlined in the rules. Additionally some might prefer it as it counts for double the weight of direct securement.

D.Tibbitt, cke, Wasted Thyme and 3 others Thank this.
