Not to me. I have a ton of ratchets/straps on my new trailer. I put 3 straps per row/layer with edge protectors and then 1 per 10 foot on the top or more depending on what it looks like in person.

Edit: I would also like to add that a 1/2 twist in the strap would do that load good. Once he starts going down the road and those straps start to vibrate, they aren't going to last long at all.

The straps over the light towers look janky to me. Those things usually have good securement points for chains, don’t know why he didn’t use them. If he was out of chains he could have run the straps thru them. Light towers have so much bounce and wiggle to them, I can’t wait to get them off my truck.
And as far as the steel load, someone please post the reg about how multiple layers over 4’ tall need belly straps, or something to that effect. I always forget how that’s worded.
    Thanks

I wonder if the front of the truck is tied down, or only the 2 chains on the back?
Also wonder if the drove it in and how the guy got out.

They will have a hard time producing that regulation, there is not one for general cargo. That being said, belly straps may not be required but that should be used.

That’s a weird looking load of dressed lumber. Cargo specific regulations only apply to their respective cargos.

    I don't think it's a load of dressed lumber.
But I couldn't find anything in the DOT handbook for that type of product and that regulation said "dressed lumber and other materials of similar shape."
Not trying to be snarky but what cargo securement rule would apply?

    PoleCrusher and cke Thank this.

The general cargo securement rules would apply. 393.100-393.115

the regulations do not say “dressed lumber and other materials of similar shape”.

    Here is the actual regulation:
393.118 What are the rules for securing dressed lumber or similar building products?
    (a) Applicability. The rules in this section apply to the transportation of bundles of dressed lumber, packaged lumber, building products such as plywood, gypsum board or other materials of similar shape. Lumber or building products which are not bundled or packaged must be treated as loose items and transported in accordance with §§393.100 through 393.114 of this subpart. For the purpose of this section, “bundle” refers to packages of lumber, building materials or similar products which are unitized for securement as a single article of cargo.
