they are wrapped in tin (see picture below) and the shipper loaded them touching. A slight space would probably be wise.
They have to be tarped. The 2,1,2 idea is a good one if they are narrow enough. I personally would load them 5 in a row if needed. Two chains on each one and a strap pulling down front and back if I need to move somewhere to secure them. I would also be cussin left and right for having to drag 10 chains out to go 400 miles. I think I could make one chain work with two binders of the trailer has pull ups.
They are off the deck and there are two racks under each coil.

Definitely I would try to use a single chain and 2 binders. I only have a 96"trailer with Hidkit. I have put 2-42" side by side. Just use my ladder to go over top for a chain check.
The reason the coils are off the trailer is because its not beveled lumber. It will sink into that 90° angle and touch. Someday. -
A rubber pad works well under coils if you don't have beveled wood to put coils on, a claim when trucker del.is all l see in to blown up pic. K/Y showed us?

I am not picking on jamesmack or anybody else here. Sorry if it seems that way. It's just got me started.
However isn't the lumber supposed to be beveled for coils?
For those coils to touch the floor everything else has to move because they are essentially 1 piece.
Is it legal to have chains against chains and/or binders when they cross? I thought they had to be separated by something for example a piece of rubber. What about secondary securement for the binders?jamespmack Thanks this. -

Chains can cross chains, straps can cross straps. Chain and strap can not with out protection.
I typed this all in his post for a reply. Not sure how it got broken up.God prefers Diesels, Tug Toy and cke Thank this. -
Not my photo. Only know it stopped short of drivers seat. Don't get lazy folks.

Can chains touch structural steel? Can chains touch a steel trailer? Can chains touch the steel coil? Can chains touch a binder?
Then what difference would it make if they touch each other? I mean sometimes I even attach chains to chains?
I’ve herd this before but can’t imagine there’s any truth to it?Last edited: Apr 9, 2021
