They might think they do, but after fighting snook, tarpon, goliath grouper, barracuda and bull sharks i don't think hooking a 1.5 lb trout is gonna be all that exciting.

I bought an ultra light to catch bass out of the creek by my house. Its the only way to get any fight out of them. And even in that creek that's so shallow i can wade across there are plenty of 6+lbers in there. The fresh water canal ramp is literally under 3 miles from my drive and every one clains there are double digit monster bass in there.
Snook and tarpon are probably the absolute most fun for near shore. Sure goliath are 3 times as big as a big tarpon, but they are just big. They don't fight much. Now snook on the othet hand, will peel off multiple runs of over a hunded yards with the drag set at max. thats just an awesome feeling.
But tarpon. Hold on cause its gonna be a ride. The largest I've hooked was 60ish pounds and it took half an hour to get him in. Everyone always said it was like hooking a Volkswagen at 60 mph but i shrugged that off as bs fishing stories. Well after finally getting a 60 lber....i can only say "we're gonna need a bigger boat".
But ya you basically nailed it. What northerners call a trophy catch we call bait fish. -
