Please tell me this is a way to keep the excess strap contained and not a way to keep the strap from loosing.

That's for the tail of the strap. The winch has a pawl on the left side locking it.

Either way it looks like crap. One of my biggest pet peeves in the flatbed world is guys who can't figure out what to do with their excess strap.

I can't tell from the picture, but it seems like there's not much strap on the winch. You need a certain amount of overlap to actually get it to stick, though to be fair I've worked with very little strap left to wind up on high cubes and it stayed.

I found a very simple way. Sorry I don't have a picture. Do a nice fold, under the loaded strap or over the strap and zip tie it. Leave some room for tightening. It's like 3 cents and most all of us carry bags of zipties. Keep side cuts next to drivers seat anyhow for picking stuff out of tires.

Makesure to trim them at a 45⁰ angle so you can stab your self on them.

I hella-zoomed in that picture, I am not seeing any strap running thru the slot, it really looks like it comes under the roller and is bundled as is.

My light-duty 3" ratchets get no less than 5 full winds before it even begins to feel any pressure of starting its tightening.

cke, CAXPT and gentleroger Thank this.

I run M2-106 rollback, I use 50' rolls of 3" but never have any tail left ....... because the tail becomes tie-down to keep the wasted facsimile of a vehicle together en-route to the yard, lol.

Yes but the strap is run through from the wrong side. The bungee is keeping it from unwinding.

cke, CAXPT and NoBigHurry Thank this.
