Loading: didnt have enough of them palletized. He was picking them off that pile & trying to stack them on pallets and then stack on top of what was there already with a thumbed excavator. That stack on the right isn’t a flat surface so what he tried to put on fell off and poked a hole. Year and a half old trailer! Cant have nothing nice! ####!

was loading out of a laydown yard under the cross bronx/ bruckner. Those stones are all out of the hunts point market, from a hundred years ago when nothing was cut with a blade, all hand chiseled so there’s mostly only one straight surface per piece.

In 20 years I never had someone hole punch a trailer.
This is what I get for loading a backhaul!

Strictly curious here as most of the damage done to our stuff is done by me, and I am unfamiliar with the process.

What do/can you do about this? Obviously can't make it go away so I assume you repair it, but do you go after the shipper for the damage?

That would be very easy to fix with a small little scrap of aluminum and a welder. I can get it to where you have to look twice.
I had a trailer once where a driver left a chain across it and then it was loaded and punched the chain links through several places in a line from one side to the other. I also seem to be fixing stuff like that all the time on my flatbed truck.

Couldn't you try and push the old deck up from below and just hit the seam? Or would it break off just pushing it back. I know aluminum doesn't like bending.

Probably not. Most of the decks are similar to the hollow plastic house deck material…basically double walled so there’s really no way to get to the underside to push it up. It’s also pretty likely it’s going to crack if you can get a hold of it. Then you just have a bigger spot to work on. It’s pretty easy to use a scrap to bridge the hole and then weld it all up to height and grind down.

    Dang, that really stinks.
Get real tired of people who don’t care about equipment and think it’s ok to beat on it.

I've had two instances of a loader effing up and causing damage. 1st time loading barn stone and he slid into my rub rail on my first trailer. It was used and battle scarred, but he dented my rub rail pretty good. Told him the first hit was free, but 2nd hit was $300. He didn't hit it again.

2nd time, guy rammed my new trailer repositioning a top stack of lumber. I didn't even have my payment book yet. Not sure I would have turned into the complete a-hole that I did if #1- he didn't try to deny it, and #2, the women in the office acted like it was no big deal and I should just forget about it. I submitted a bill and was paid by the company.

I don’t need other people to mess my deck up, I do just fine myself. Didn’t realize the plate was sticking out a little lower than the end of the knuckle (or whatever proper term that’s called) and sliced the deck open. I have 1 tiny spot where a forklift guy hit the side of the trailer when he was helping pry some nailed down blocks off, i let it slide, nice guy and was very apologetic. Didn’t want to cause a stink at a big corporations yard and the guy loose his job over a little nic in my trailer.
