    Nope. The tracks are not tie down points, and if you tie only to the tracks the machine can move inside the tracks. I used to, until we hauled an old feller-buncher with loose tracks. Had to stop moderately quickly and the machine moved and stretched one of the binder hooks. Those are 1/2" grade 100 chains, so we end up with adequate WLL just going to the track frame. Those track pads can bend/break fairly easily, plus you put a lot of sideways pressure on the idlers.

    That said, I don't put down folks that do tie to the tracks to get to their WLL, I just prefer not to..........but then I still cover the exhaust too which probably isn't necessary at all.

    Well said. Anyone that thinks tracks are tie-down points has never pulled a tracked machine on a beam, imo.

    I put at least four off the car body on all excavators. The dozers are a little bit trickier.
