I didn't blame anybody. But if he was doing 70 as you say, he was speeding. Hopefully the driver of the car that caused the entire crash, if that is what happened, didn't name his own price on car insurance. If this is the wrong place for this to be posted though, I hope a mod will move it to a more appropriate thread.

Wow, it sure seemed like the article tried really hard to not blame the 4-wheeler.

Unfortunately how it works. "look how that 4 wheeler swerved and cut that truck off." "Wow look at that truck swerve and hit the wall. "It sure can do a lot of damage." "Wow that"s a really bad driver swerving with a heavy load like that." "Look at that poor 4 wheeler the truck driver did a lot of damage to." "We don't want truck drivers on the road like this." Yeah mmhmm. Not the truck drivers fault. In fact I think he did a good job at just keeping it as it was. That could have been a lot worst. NO ONE understands the fact that a truck is not your ordinary vehicle. Not easy on anything to stop it like that...you can't. No one understands trucks. I've been flipped off for not getting up to speed in two seconds after the light turned green hauling rock. Stupid idiot flew around me with the middle finger out the window. Whatever. Then one time I seen a idiot car on 405 swerve right in front of a nice Peterbilt dump truck almost hit the bumper and the dump truck handled it really well, just about smoked the brakes and his sphincter trying to slow down. And a few seconds later the same car swerved back in the other lane exactly where it had just come from. IQ of -100. They ought to pay for all the damaged and maintenance they caused.

Almost all interstates and large highways in Harris County are 65MPH posted. Including I-610 where this happened. Everybody is usually doing closer to 70mph or more.

Houston PD got me like 10 years ago on I-10 for 70 in 65. I was being passed by cars left and right.

Had to show up in person to fight the ticket. Couldn't just send a lawyer in my place. Judge threw it out completely no fine or points just pay the lawyer.

The cop just hoped he could grab an out of state truck and get an easy no contest ticket. I got paid to haul a load back down there for court and paid to go back home. Made way more than what the lawyer cost.

Used to live there, its 60 mph. 610 and homestead is on the north east side of loop 610, as you would work your way to US 59 from Interstate 10. I used to haul heavy equipment down there just like that, too. Speed limit may have changed since the last time I was there, but I know it isn't 70. It gets very congested there in the afternoons. If my memory serves me correctly, I think the speed limit if you're over width there in Houston (or anywhere else in Texas) is 55, if its a permitted load.

There is no such speed restrictions on TX permits.

Yall are caught up on the speed. It's a number I made up based on my experience hauling #### through Houston. Pretend I said 60mph so he wasn't speeding. Doesnt really matter because a 4 wheeler hit him changing lanes.

Yeah, ok. Considering you're not from Texas, I'm gonna presume you're a man of the world. Read this though https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/TN/htm/TN.623.htm again, nobody, certainly not me blamed the driver. So, get off your soapbox. When is the last time you hauled a permit load in Texas?

In Houston when you show up for court if you don't see the cop that wrote you the ticket the odds are the ticket will get thrown out anyway. I had similar happen to me way before I even started driving trucks. Was it city cops or the HPD DOT?

Nah man I didn't say anybody blamed him. This thread is generally used to show drivers being dumb with securement. I was just trying to add some context from the story so people didn't read a headline and see a picture and put it on the driver when it wasn't his fault

The speed limits in those laws apply to Mobile homes, permits issued by 6 counties, and permits issued by the port authority of Corpus Christy. So I was wrong in that here are permits available in Texas with a speed limit. My comment about speed limits was overly broad since I'd imagine most of us in the flatbed forum generally are talking single trip or annual OS/OW permits for machinery.

My last permit from Texas was January of this year. I haven't had a Texas permit in the last 12 years of OTR oversize work in and out of Houston that has had a speed limit listed on it. Last real change I remember happening was the removal of the Houston curfew.

I went and looked at the ticket since I couldn't remember. It was a Houston PD officer. Not DOT. No inspection was issued at the time. It was actually 65 in 60 so still only 5mph. I do remember the cop showed up to the hearing though. I didn't do anything though. I just let my lawyer handle it and then walked up front when the judge called me. She just dismissed it completely with no fine or court costs. Did cost me like $300 for the lawyer though.
