I used to run together with my old man. Great memories and would love to do it just one more time

It looked like some kind of chiller/Air unit. I pull alot of those for a company nearby. They started giving those loads to anyone who would bid cheaper. Then they started hitting bridges.......We were anywhere from 14'5 high to 15'5 high.

Over here single screw means single axle tractor. Normally over here the largest thing you can pull with an single axle is a tandem axle 40 foot trailer at max. Those tri-axle trailers looked longer than 40 feet. Maybe I just couldn't see the second drive axle in the photo, but those trucks looked like single axle tractors. I sure wish we could get away with that over here. Never seen an s/a pulling a tri/a trailer.

That is not correct. The term single screw means only one powered drive axle. Lots of companies, especially some LTL’s like Holland and Roadway used to have tandem axle tractors that had only one powered axle . The second axle was unpowered and could be either in front or behind the powered axle and was called a tag axle. A tandem tractor with power to both axles was called a full screw or twin screw.

Single screw definitely means just a small single drive axle tractor here on the west coast.

That was what I assumed it meant and my reply earlier more or less covers the situation in Europe and in the UK and Ireland. Thanks for the confirmation. ;-)

So what’s a single axle tractor called then? I ran one for a year and only heard it called a single screw. That’s what I called it. I guess we were all wrong.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. That's kind of what I meant, just one powered axle. When I say single screw, I'm not talking about tag axles.

A single axle is a single axle. A single screw is a single axle with a dummy or tag axle. A twin screw is a live tandem
