They're probably waiting to view the camera footage along the freeway to identify him, and they don't want him aware of the pictures that would show him so they can track him. If you know the area, no one probably took pictures because it's not really safe to pull over there, as there is no real large shoulder along I-94 through the heart of Detroit, in that area. :)

I was really hopeful that the how did the dozer get parked like that was rhetorical and the op would give us more info.

he smacked a bridge at west northern parkway and wabash ave in Baltimore. I can not begin to guess why he was there — off route, no permit, just plum lost and driving around at 14+ feet in an east coast city.

I have had to send permits back to Baltimore because they routed me through town before. No rhyme or reason. Send it back and they issue a more appropriate route.

Maybe they did that to him and he didn’t know better. Still no excuse for actually hitting the bridge, but may explain why he was there.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve never done oversized and only pulled an rgn a few times but I can’t understand how he hit it that hard to get the dozer to stand up like that. Are tracked vehicles that size transported in some freewheel configuration that allowed it to back flip? The forces involved had to have been tremendous

If you check the photo enlarged, you'll see THE chain laying across the deck. It almost looks like he only had one there, but regardless, the impact was sufficient to snap the chain perhaps? It would be worse if that dozer was actually loaded forward, and that would mean it not only was tipped on end, but it was moved about 15' rearward.

I find it almost impossible to believe that photo of the bulldozer isn’t fake. Those things are so incredibly heavy it’s just unbelievable that it would stand up like that. I’ve seen those things go up hills that were extremely steep without flipping. Not saying it’s fake, but with AI you can’t trust anything anymore. The news article says it was on its side on the road.

Looking at the ROPS it looks beleivable to me. Without a dozer on it it's probably a bit butt heavy even though there is no ripper either.

It's not AI. Everything in the image makes sense the way its shown.

Here's the layout of the bridges he went under. The red marker is where you see him parked in that picture.
    SmartSelect_20241024_211204_Maps.jpg

There's 4 bridges total but the 3 in the lower left look like they are much newer construction than the 4th one. You can see that the first 3 all have good condition paint and pretty clean looking concrete compared to the rusty beams supporting the 4th bridge. I would bet those 3 newer ones were built just slightly higher than the 4th older bridge so he probably cleared them no problem.

    SmartSelect_20241024_211011_Maps.jpg

Looking at the underside of the 4th bridge you can see it has all the beams close together until the outside edges. Makes sense as a rail bridge. Need a lot of support in the middle for trains but the edges will only ever need to support service trucks for the rail road. It also looks like the bridge is slightly lower on the exit side. Hard to tell from street view.

Speed limit sign just before the bridge is 35MPH so traffic probably moves at 35-45mph there.

So my guess as to how it ended up on its tail is he was just barely clearing when he got under the bridge and was probably moving pretty fast. He got under the center of the 4th bridge after clearing the big gaps in the beams and starting scraping but couldn't fit the ROPS into the tiny gaps so the suspension on the trailer would start compressing. When he got past the center and back to the last 2 beams the ROPS finally fit into the gap and the suspension was over inflating due to trying to lift the bridge. The suspension suddenly over extends from the increased pressure in the bags and the ROPS catches the last beam and pulls the back end over and the front up.

If he had caught earlier he wouldn't be out the other side, he would be stuck under the bridge with the ROPS wedged on one end and the hood of the machine smashed up from tipping up.
