    Not straps, bungees.
There are 2 on it. They are clamped to a piece of metal extending from the box side, then the hooks are around the locking pliers.

Just a giant smooth sided block. Most I've seen are like 3-4ft high by 4-6ft wide and about 15-20ft long. Ideally they should cross chains over the ends of it.

Found this photo on google images.

Big giant square chunk of aluminum. Strapping them is legal and probably just as good as chain. And 6 straps has more than enough wll

Well technically that might not be what one that size is called. Ingots are generally brick shaped but come in various weights of a molten metal poured in a mold and cooled. Gold, silver, lead, aluminum etc.

This particular one was on a 48' spread axle flat. I don't know the exact dimensions it was just a raw piece of aluminum about 20' long and 2'×3' rectangular. I guess it was going to a beer can plant or maybe Ford would make F150's out of it? I dunno what they do with a 30,000 lb brick of aluminum.

What about chains across the front in an x pattern? Not necessary? Sure looks like it should be.

I don’t believe there is any special rule requiring them. And honestly if the straps are tight they aren’t needed. And if the straps are loose and it does begin to move two 5/16 or 3/8 chains ain’t stopping it.
