If one strap is enough for a coil than tarps are just fine laying there as is :D

Let me add... at the port in Savannah( the one on Lathrop Avenue) before they stopped shipping break bulk/ freight to that port, those guys were moving coils like that with 1-2 straps all day every day. Now granted, they were only moving them to a warehouse a few miles down the road but, one day DOT was sitting outside the port and nailed a bunch of those guys.....

Perhaps, but I personally couldn’t place a 40-some thousand pound coil with its higher center of gravity and potential for far more kinetic energy in the same league as a load of rebar or even pipe.

Obviously it’s fine for sticks and bricks, but for coils I can’t say I’d be opposed to that.

A disaster is still a disaster regardless of the cause.

Don’t some states require their own endorsement to haul coils, particularly New York?

Don’t know if New York does. Been at least 15 years since hauling steel in that state, didn’t need one then, things could have changed. Maybe they watched what happened in Alabama and decided it was just not worth the time and money.

Alabama use to, but it impeded interstate commerce so they had to stop doing it. Personally I think people worry way too much about what the other guy is doing.
