I would say he's pushing it with that load period. If im not mistaken, that excavator weighs over 65k lbs, so he had to put it all the way to the rear. I think he was going too slow when he was turning. Sometimes you just gotta gun it!!!

Dip ####s do dip #### things. It’s around 70k especially with that thumb. Maybe an hair more. And looking at the angle of the rear. That first axle is screaming
-
So what should he have done, or in other words what would I have done?
First stop and take a walk. See how much room there is within a reasonable distance within the target road and thus somewhere big enough to turnaround. Then, with extreme care and hopefully an escort to stop the traffic, angle up to the high side of the road and reverse in.
Failing that continue until you find a place to turn and return, then you are on the high side of the road already and with an easy right turn.
What do others think?
CAXPT, cke and gentleroger Thank this. -
Are those tire skid marks behind the trailer, and if so were they caused by the trailer wedging against the tires and acting as a brake?
-
No, I think those marks are normal scuff marks from turning the three trailer axles with what is likely in excess of 60,000 lbs. on them.exhausted379, beastr123, CAXPT and 6 others Thank this.

I think there isn't enough room to make "an easy right turn". He'd have to button hook which would leave him in the same position.
My two dumb thoughts are to use dunage to build a cordory road ramp for the trailer tires or use the bucket like a punt pole in a Venice canal.
After typing that I realized I could just off load the machine, bounce/scrap the empty trailer through, and then reload it. Or depending how far down that secondary road I needed to go, just drive the machine. -
I'm not sure he could make the turn from the high side of the road - probably not is my guess.
What I would have done? I would have fired up the hoe, unchained the bucket, placed the back of the bucket on the ground to take weight off the trailer, and gently rowed myself over the hump. I am doubtful though that the driver possesed the necessary operating skills to pull that off without causing more damage. It could be done with one person and released brakes, just have to have your wits about you lifting the bucket between strokes to make sure it didn't roll away once you got over the hump. Short of that, over-inflating both the tractor and trailer suspension is about his only hope, and still probably wouldn't be enough.
Wrong tractor, wrong trailer, too much weight - seems to be a lot of that here lately........Last edited: Nov 15, 2025 at 12:40 PM
