There is no one answer for this thread. There is plenty to argue about. How many of you have ever bothered to read the Jacobs manual? Or any other brand your rig is equipped with? Do you float the gears? Do you run your Jakes all the time? Big no no according to manufacture. Not saying I haven't done it many times. But try to keep them off most of the time. Stay way out in front of truck and flip them on when needed. Check out page 5 I think.

I gotta agree with shutting them off especially in small rolling hills there is room for a little fuel saving there

1.2 million safe miles, good for you. I can't quote you my milage...never counted!!!! NEVER MATTERED!!! As far as my driving record, I have had 4 speeding tickets in a truck, a few in my pickup over the years, several overweight tickets also, had 3 jacknifes, all 3 of which no other vehicles were involved, and no damage to the truck, and never left the road..Had 1 steer tire blow at 75mph, which drug me across 3 lanes and almost put me into the median (almost ripped the hood clear off my pete) Have never been involved in a accident with another vehicle, but that doesnt mean it couldnt happen tomorrow, same goes for you. So dont throw your 1.2 million miles at me like it means something, cause it dosent. Those miles are behind you!! But You are right, I do use the word "Professional" like its a four letter word, because it is to me. When you tack "Professional" on to anything your not leaving room for error. We all make mistakes no matter how long or how many miles we drive. But, just 1 question from Billie Big Rigger here, LOL, How many miles, or how long do you drive before you are considered a "Professional", cause as far as I can tell, lol, its as soon as you walk out of the dmv with your cdl. You see all this Professional CRAP is technical, not practical. This is the only industry where you can be a "Professional", LOL, with NO experience!! hmmm...Billie Big Rigger here wants to know how thats possible...oh, thats right, you got it on paper, well now that makes all the difference right there. As far as the jakes, The only time I dont run them is in Truck stops. I think thats just good common sense. But I run them everywhere else (Flat land included). Way I got it figured, when someone starts buying brakes for my truck, I'll drive it how they want. As for your last remark, LOL, I'm on it feller. Think I'm gonna put that across my bug shield "Billie Big Rigger".. Good 1

We'll have to change your name to Lucky!
Double L Thanks this. -
I agree on the jake v. engine brake thing. Another peeve of mine is vice-grips v. locking pliers.
-
Here's another point, my jake is under warranty while my brakes are not. We just had the brakes replaced, they lasted 350k miles. No problems with the jake yet.

Unless your running custom stacks the majority of trucks now have full mufflers so the Local LEO cant cite you for running "reverse thrust"

As far as disturbing the poor farmers, on my last trip I noticed a lot of those signs right on the interstate where they'd built new houses right up to the edge of the 4 lane highway. Now I'll shut it off through a small town to be considerate, but don't go intruding into my home on the interstate telling me to shut up. Next they'll be building houses in the median and complaining about the traffic.
-
Nice isn't it. They move out along the highway and complain. Then walls are built.
Like the idiots that move out by airports and complain about the noise. -
Yeah, I wonder who ends up paying for them big walls to be put up. Im guessing its probably the tax payers.
