Correct, infact, pilot cars here are required to have both a cb and a vhf radio.
Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
If your scanner can listen to about the 260 megahertz or so give or take a few, maybe you can treat the DOT man to a plain language nuclear authentication exercise between Nuclear carrying bombers and their National Command Centers for the authority if for real shooting war to proceed with the tasked attack situation after they sign off. Usually with a Doom call sign. Ive got a fairly recent link to such a exercise not to far back. I'll have to look for it.
Your DOT man can put that in his pipe and smoke it. HA. -
A few years ago I was pulling a side dump inside the fence at the nuc site on Ft Greely. They seriously search the trucks and you, including your lunch. before you can get in. You have to give up your phone, and the mics off of your radios, among other things. I ask about the mikes as we were running both ways on small one lane roads, and could only pass each other at intersections and such. They tried to tell me that cb's interfered with the missiles. lol Yea buddy, 1/4 mile from the hiway and a cb is going to send off a nuc. lol

I listened in on a talk with some Ham radio operators. They admitted that cell phones were distracting. While their 2m radio's weren't. They kept thinking and talking. Then came up with... Perhaps...probably.. it's that the cell phones do not create the entire sine wave of talk. They do just enough to get away with you rationalizing what is said. You must concentrate on the conversation to do that.
But then.... that doesn't cover other distractions, texting, etc. Some people are lucky to make it down the road in the first place. -
You are correct, sir. During a DOT inspection, a diesel bear asked my why I had 2 radios on my dash. I told him that I have 2 pilot cars.
Why isn’t a CB a distraction like a cell phone?
-it adheres to the 1 button push rule
-it can be operated without you ever having to look at it while driving.
-it doesn’t block your vision when you bring it to your face.motocross25, Cattleman84, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
Here is GA’s law on handheld devices.. CB’s are exempt. Also there are times that you are allowed to ignore the law if you’re reporting an accident..etc, etc.
Ga. hands-free device law takes effect July 1, mimics federal regsMatt1924 Thanks this. -
Law enforcement uses two way radios. They require a microphone. That’s not going to change anytime soon!
Matt1924 Thanks this. -
I was actually ignorant of the law to be honest as it relates to using gps. I utilize it and sometimes make corrections and use the zoom feature but have always been on the lookout for the po-po because I thought that was against the rules too. Nice to know that it is permissible.

I can hold my cell phone up to my ear and drive safe all day as long as no one is on the other end. It's the conversation thats distracting for me.
Thats why I dont have a headset. If someone needs to talk to me Ill see they called and call them back when I can get parked somewhere.
To me the law really doesnt make sense. A passenger sitting next to me rambling on and on about his family drama will be more distracting than just holding a phone.MartinFromBC and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
