I run my own authority. It’s not as strong lately but I’m still doing fine.
I recommend to lease onto a carrier, pull their trailers, their contract freight, for a percentage. Once you learn the lanes and save money, get your own authority. I’ve had my own since May of 2017 and I think you can do a little better with your own numbers but being leased to a carrier is not bad and removes a lot of stress. Running your own numbers is better suited for someone that wants to be a small fleet owner. If you just want to be a one truck guy, I think it’s better to stay leased on with a good carrier. There are good and bad with either option.
