Quite probably, yes. I have run several potato packing houses over the years, and it is very common to have truck arrive before they are dug.Hurry up and wait.
This is true for many produce shippers, and farmers. Just the way it works.

    Lineage Logistics aka Walmart/Sams Club

    Miguel Bustamante PkWY
    Colton, CA
    Arrived at 10:30AM
    11AM appointment
    Received door at 7:30pm
    Unloaded 10:30pm
    Received paperwork at 12AM

    13 hours ugh

That was for a full load. We normally deliver LTL, but even that takes 4-8 hours. Lineage here used to be faster, about half those wait times but they've really dropped the ball in the last year or so.

It's becoming tiresome for me and the drivers since we go there once a week. All our other customers that have pallets paired with this Walmart/Lineage when it's LTL have also let me know of their annoyance when they get their stuff late. I'm going to have insist on a $30/hr detention fee on LTL after 4 hours, and after 6 hours on truckloads. If the customer says no, I'm going to part ways with them. They're not huge volume, but they pay quickly, are very friendly, and we've been with them for 10 years. I'll be hitting them up tomorrow to see what they say.

I have a new bad receiver to go in my black book and I'm thinking it will take over the top slot

    Sysco in Lewisville, TX

I've never seen an office full of so many clueless [lumper] people in my life. Received bills at 14:20 for a 09:00 appt, arrived gate 08:00

We, thank goodness don't do Sysco very often except for a few customers but this Lewisville place on a Monday is beyond ridiculous. You can observe live so many "workers" in an office taking 20-30 minutes to do what could have easily been done in 3 minutes. Obviously paid by the hour and not by the job.

Missed my FCFS last truck @ 15:00 Dallas pickup.

EDIT: FWIW, I talked to our CSR for the shipper on this load, and she said this may have been the last straw and won't take any more of their Sysco Lewisville loads. She's seen this particular location take far too long, as a matter of routine. She's generally not one to BS drivers.

However, they are liable to accept a higher rate offering from the shipper and resume business as usual. This rate increase would likely far exceed any detention money drivers would receive, so .... :biggrin_25512:

If you think lewisville is slow try the one in Longview. They only get about a third as many trucks and take as long or longer.

I picked up at Wheatland in Chicago last week. Got there 2 hours early, was loaded an hour later and tarped before my appointment time. I've heard stories of them being horrible, but with most drivers going there with elogs, apparently they've had to up their game or companies start charging retention.

I worked for a house carrier for them. They are awful. I arrived early for a crosstown load. By the time I got loaded, I had to park the truck, because the receiver was closed.

My boss told me they fired the shipping manager because he cost them over $30,000 in detention.
