What was the profit altogether on that scam? Personally, I'm disgusted.

I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart myself, but I think the right path would have been a legitimate attempt to collect the $60.

A $60 stand-off does not justify ripping off a broker for thousands of dollars.

That's complete theft, fraud and an insult to law-abiding citizens.

Not just "no better". Worse. He sunk lower than the people he ripped off.

Do you think that cost Wal-Mart a penny? No, the broker got shafted. Granted, brokers do quite a bit of shafting themselves, and more than likely, the $60 lumper fee wasn't disclosed at the time Mr. Ripoff Rocket agreed to haul it.

Still, collecting even the $5000 dollars cash for a load of potatoes is a crime in it's own right.

He recouped his money. And then some.

It all shakes out in the end. What goes around, comes around.

Maybe he took it a bit too far, but I say bully for him. If enough people turned it around and screwed back, this crap would stop. All these drivers that roll over and put up with it only make it worse. If this broker got hosed like this 4 or 5 times, you can bet he would change the way he does business. All this crap of paying for lumpers, paying for pallets, waiting 8 hours has got to stop. But as long as drivers keep grabbing their ankles, that'll never happen.

ok so i am just a dumb grain truck driver but after reading 43 pages and taking a break from reading i guess there some rules to follow here when going to a shipper from hell

    rule #1

tell the shippers to bohica (bend over here it comes again) and DO NOT LET THEM tell you to bohica

    rule#2

make a list of the ones that refuse to bohica for you and then make up your own mind how to fix the problem

Dealing with HEB... that brings back memories. Used to "cringe" every time we ran and shipped product to them. Not a very pleasant organization to work with to say the least :biggrin_25513:

TQL Logistics. The Worse Brokers I have ever delt with. First Load, Broker lied and pick up location was 60 miles away. Second Load was ok. Third load, broker called me 11 times that day, said, "he was going to look like an ####### and this #### wasn't right" because the shippment didn't get delivered til that afternoon.
Fuel Advence -$25.00 from the load pay.(very high)

My truck and company will never pull anything for them again.

Ok, I've only been at this a couple of months running team with my boss so i can learn the ropes. But some of the places that I have been to are already listed here.

HEB, San Antonio, 12 hours to unload a bulk load of potatoes.

Stop & Shop, Assinet MA, 8am appointment verified by the broker and the shipper, only to be told when we got there that it was actually a noon appointment. 8 hours total invested in that.

Grocery D/C in Newburg NY (can't remember the name of the place) was a mixed load of dry goods, and one pallet that had to be refrigerated. 3 hours to unload the 4 pallets of dry good. Go to the other side of the building to wait 4 hours to unload the one pallet. And to top the whole works off. Lumper fees on both sides of the building.

Concerning the lumpers (i know its all a sham and a rip off, paying someone to unload the freight that they ordered) the best line i have heard to date is "wonder who's brother in law you have to be to get this gig?"

Just discovered this great little corner of the Trucker's Report. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for!

What brought me here were a couple recent pickups at the Indy Pepsico at 5858 Decatur, both of which were brokered by Strive Logistics.

First of all, "Strive" Logistics? What a pretentious name!

They need to strive a lot harder when it comes to putting enough time on Indy Pepsico loads. They're 0-for-2 on the two that I just hauled.

The load times were both long but not extremely long---left 3.5 hours past appt. on 1st load, 4.5 hours past on 2nd. But with the gratuitously tight delivery times Strive's schedulers set up, that's all it took to screw up both runs.

Another bad place is HEB in San Marcos, TX. Had a pet food delivery there awhile back with a 2100 appt. Didn't get out until after 2 AM.

Bad actors usually have telltale signs. A thick glass partition that makes you stoop down to look up at who you're supposed to communicate with is one of them. Pretentious-sounding names like "Strive" are another.
