Thats pretty much albertson in general, I sat at their SLC location for 13 hours once. It was a ice cream load with 86 different flavors, but still 13 hours!!!

I think after sititng half a day, I'd probably tell them that I'll be needing to refuel the reefer soon, and if I have to go get reefer fuel and return to re-dock, there will be a mileage fee, re-docking fee, fuel consumption surcharge, and an additional-stop fee, added onto the existing detention fee. Alternatively, they could pay for the cold storage fees because you're not their mobile warehouse, and will be leaving soon to take the product to cold storage, because you have other customers with needs, too. That is, providing your contract terms don't have you bent over, forced to sit for entire days waiting to be unloaded without recourse.

That is exactly right. These guys sign contracts that state they will agree to sit for as long as it takes with no recourse. Why someone would sign a contract like that is beyond me. I give two hours to load and two hours to unload. 15 minutes before the two hour mark I call the broker and see if they will be paying detention. If they say anything other than yes for sure without a doubt and send me a new rate confirmation via email, then I leave. Don't sign a contract that is lopsided. Leave yourself an out always. If you are waiting to get loaded, no big deal, just find another load. If you are waiting to get unloaded you have the upper hand. Utilize the UCC and take that crap to a storage facility. You would be shocked how quickly a broker will send you a com check when you tell them the product is being off loaded in storage. Sure you will never pull a load for that broker again, but why would you want to?

Otis Spunkmeyer- West Columbia, SC. This has to be the worst place in the world to pick up. About 10 trucks at a time trying to get loaded. Often, you will be told to leave and go to the Pilot because there are too many trucks trying to pick up at the same time. Appointments don t mean anything here. You can arrive 9am for a 10am appt. and still end up leaving here several hours after your appt. Currently they have one dock for loading while the other three are being worked on. I ve been here since 9am and still not loaded. Lastly, if you have a reefer that takes a while to cool, don t even bother trying to get loaded, as they will not load you until you re 8 degrees or lower and you have to be -5 to leave because of other companies having rejected frozen bread dough being brought back because of being too warm.

When I was with Knight, Albertsons was a guaranteed 9-11 hour stop WITH an appointment time. I used to do a dedicated SLC-LA run twice a week Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. When I would get to the terminal after my unload I would ask if they needed any local help and if it was the albertsons in north salt lake then I would tell them I would do it for Local pay and I would go there and take a snooze and play computer. Sometimes I was able to pad another $100 to that week and I take a snooze and play some computer games.

Conagra or whatever the Potato plants are in Ontario Oregon and in some of Idaho. those were always 6-9 hour waits past appointment times.
But they were always nice though and that helped.

The meanest, most crabby, were always the receivers for Onions. If I had a load of Onions then I knew I had a scolding for something at the other end of the line. I got yelled at for not knowing how to speak French when there was a Canadian Driver there who was pretending to not know English. It was so out there that it was actually funny.

It isn't the Albertson's in Tolleson that I've had problems with. Instead, it is the Fry's just right up the road from Albertson's.

These freaking people have no clue. Last time I was here, I had an appointment at 1500, docked at 1600 and was released at midnight. Am here again, arrived for my 1530 appointment at 1430. It is now 1730 and am still waiting for a door, along with seven other trucks that are sitting here. I can only imagine that I won't be outta here anytime soon.

Just don't understand these grocery store warehouses and why they take so long.

I could not agree more Coyote! I have delivered there as well, and yes, they are every bit as slow, if not slower than Albertson's. Basha's is terrible as well. (I think I posted something about Basha's before though)

Who do you haul for Coyote? If you don't mind me asking.
