I had a job interview this morning which ended very frustratingly. Luckily, I'm not kicking myself as hard tonight because I had an interview this afternoon which made up for it. That one went much better.
Interview #1 was with an LTL company who got my resume through a job fair. They run both tractor trailers and straight trucks, so I could've taken either. Everything was fine in the interview until the guy figured out I've never run OTR. It shouldn't make a difference because I back, maneuver around obstacles and put myself in tight places daily. Instead of entertaining that possibility, he fluffleduffed and told me to call back in nine months or six months of OTR.
How do you overcome the 'you-can't-be-trained' attitude?

Company "rules" It's like companies saying you need a 'refresher" if you've been out of a truck over 6 months, as if you've forgotten how to drive !

I'm not sure you do. I like you think if you can handle local OTR should be no different. Some will say its an insurance deal but I don't see why. If you can drive a rig in Denver than you can anywhere.

I've been told the same thing before. I drive in Baltimore and DC, and have had companies turn me down for lack of experience, I've been driving 12 tears. Any time I have ever asked I was told it's what the insurance companies require. I have a felony on my record that is 22 years old. I have my tanker/hazmat and TWIC card and experience, and some companies will hire me, others won't give me the time of day. You just gotta keep on keepin on, throw enough crap at the wall something will stick for sure. Good luck to ya!

Many of the LTL companies pull 28 doubles and you will end up pulling empties at times. Considering all of the wind in the western Rocky Mountain states they need for you to have experience with wind before putting you on the road at night. 28 trailers blow over much easier than 53 footers and the second one tips even easier.
YRC and Holland are LTL and nearly bankrupt and having trouble hiring drivers. You might be able to get a year of experience there driving a truck with nearly 3 million miles on it.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
