your not accounting for all the numbers. your operating costs are much higher then that. or are you working for free?

operation also makes a difference. flatbedders don't get anywhere near 7 mpg. heavy haulers average around 4 mpg. own authority vs. leased on vs. rental lease.

You said break even. Breaking even is the point where I owe nothing, and gain nothing. That's breaking even. As a flat bed driver I average 6.5 with a long nose Pete. It's all how you drive.

how is it that your breaking even at .91 when it takes every one else upwards of 1.30

teach the rest of the members how you can run your truck so cheap. i'm sure they'd all like to know.

rooster's payment is less than mine ... but my cost is only .99 ... that includes fuel, payment, maintenance, tires, taxes and replacement (inframe).

The problem is you are assuming that the same cost that an o/o has are incurred by a l/o ... they're not ... no trailer, no base plate/permits, no tolls, no consortium ...

Items that you may count in operating cost, that I don't and won't ... food, phone and house keeping supplies ... I consum these regardless, if I was on the truck or not ... But now they are tax deductible.

Last, it's looking at it as cost per mile ... there is no smarter running as an l/o ... it's chasing miles. I've averaged just a shade over 126000 miles a year over the last 4 years. Spread your fixed cost over that many miles and it drops fast on a per mile basis.

    3000 miles a week average?

so lets see to make that average you never take a day off, never run into traffic, never breakdown, never have maintenance done and never get detained forever at shippers and receiver ever.

    seems legit

I run 11500 to 12500 miles a month, every month, cause I'm a COMPANY DRIVER. If you read the first paragraph, I stated it's for one week, though typical for me, doesn't represent all weeks. There is also 5 hrs of Detention factored in, I don't know about anyone else but I'm on line 1 when at shipper/receiver, no sense burning my clock loading or unloading.

As far as per mile running cost, that is the point of this post. Those looking to lease, buy or whatever can have an idea what a 3000 miles week (my weekly goal) with no major issues can be at Andrus. Different companies and different programs have different rates.

You should be collecting detention regardless of what line you're on ... you're being held up and should be paid for your time.
