I know some people really complain about their truck's age. I wonder if there's a way to find this infomation out ahead of time that is publicly available or would you have to just asked your recruiter? I know this Steven's Transport has been harrassing me for weeks now to join there company. They did say their fleet is nothing over 18 months which is nice...
There a way to find the age of a companies' truck fleet?

Just call and ask... Average age might be 2.5 years, so you'll end up with something new or maybe 5 years old. If they are well maintained age doesn't matter much anyway, I've driven great trucks that were 8 years old.

Do you have a cdl?
Do you live in Texas?
Look at Western Dairy Transport in Abernathy,TX. Looks they keep pretty decent trucks.

You should be fortunate that a trucking company wants you. Did you find another company that is better?
You cannot expect to be issued a cherry fresh rig with 30 miles on the odometer, most of the time new hires are provided with rigs that are somewhat older and easier to dispose of should a bad wreck happen. If the company is only doing 18 month old rigs, that tells me perhaps it is a leasing operation and may not have the pride in ownership if they were buying the rigs out right to keep for years and years. Maybe it's cheaper for them to cycle a thousand tractors for new ones and keep that going. I prefer companies that buy tractors and trailers to keep. Pride in ownership will reflect first class maintaince upkeep and a desire to work well for a long time, rather than deliberately disposing of trucks because the lease is up in a few months.
If you stay on the road long enough and behave, you will too be issued a new rig. You will find that it is your rig and no one else's it will be exceedingly difficult to be told to clean it out in a years time.RustyChops41 and Jrdude5 Thank this. -
