A guy winning the competition at that company getting only $25000 is a joke.

If I hda proven methods to get freight down the road at 10+ mpg, I would'nt settle for 25g's. I'd be looking for the consultant gig at $1mm year.

The difference between your avg 6mpg and 10 mpg on a fleet like MVT"s(1100 tractors) on an avg 3000 mile week, is $3.5Million a month in savings. (@$4/gal)

    BigBadBill Thanks this.

I suppose the $25K winner could have purchased fuel out of his pocket to make the numbers look better and still come out ahead financially.

I was thinking the exact same thing. All he would have to do is spend $400 a month out of pocket (100 gal) and he is still $20,000 ahead after his "prize"

In the Q&A section of presentation the CEO was asked how they keep people from cheating. All he said was that the goal was to pay for as little fuel as possible per mile and we can't control all the ways someone may try and work the awards.

Also said that less than 40% of drivers qualified for bonuses.

    Hmmm...Let's see.

    .30 + per mile @ 3000 miles per week = $900

with a bonus, get around $1200 per week then take out taxes and expenses through the week and your back down to about $800.

All while saving the company money.

Now I got about 4.5 mpg two weeks ago, ran 2 loads for a total of 1700 miles and got a $3000 settlement AFTER fuel, permits and 25% to the company whose trailer I pull.:yes2557:

    Yep, I like my job.

Yup, and I know of at least ONE major company who will recommend ways (in private of course) that you can increase it.

When a company calculates your fuel bonus by the number of miles driven vs. purchased gallons of fuel. It's a bogus contest.

All a driver has to do, is pay for it out of pocket. Fail to turn in the receipt. Instant increase in "calculated" MPG.

Hell will freeze over before I put fuel in a truck, out of pocket.

    $25,000 annual bonus.

100 drivers dropping $40 a quarter in the tank to increase MPG = $16,000 tax free a year. I'm willing to bet, many dropped more than $40 a quarter.

It allows the company to also calculate for lower IFTA at years end. I.E. Fuel cost per mile.

Not only are they screwing "some" drivers. They're screwing the Government.
