Never trust a computer 9.14mpg.. What little I've read about paccar mx the Europeans in the garage section who've had experience with them for years say they don't last need overhauling at 500k. Kilometers is not unusual at all. Money pits..

I have run Paccar 12,6l motors in DAF trucks for about 5 years now.
No motor issues at about 500 000 miles.
Stripped a few Mains and bid end bearings at 470 000 miles , virtually no wear.

    Things that have caused problems.
They are sensitive to water in the diesel and the standard filters weren't up to the job.
Wiring harness needed replacing after 4 years as they caused some issues due to insulation breakdown mid harness.
On the 12,6L the diesel back leakage from the injectors runs through a port in the intake manifold.
If the gaskets or torque on the bolts is not perfect you can get diesel seepage in to the intake when parked.
Other than that I have nothing to complain about.

All I've heard talking to people with them is they're pretty good on fuel and are quiet. But you'll get used to using your flashers because they're gutless wonders.:biggrin_25523:

My 1st quarter 2012 IFTA was 9.16 mpg on my 98 Volvo 770 with a 3406E Cat motor ran @ 57 mph. I have on my future list of improvements to go to single drive axle with a tag axle and MicroBlue turbocharger that is the last thing to do besides an inframe I can do. I am currently just starting to test the EcoTaz Eco-5 on my truck to post results of this product.

The single drive will make a big difference.
I am hoping you will see the 10 mpg sometime in the future.
I bet if you had a dedicated trailer that could be tricked out you would easily get 10mpg.

Hope it does for him, I've got two trucks doing the same job pulling the same trailers and one has a dead axle and one is a twin screw. Don't notice a huge difference between either of them other than higher tire wear with the dead axle truck.

Not is the upper midwest / plains this winter on a regular basis I'll bet. I would be a mighty skeptical citizen about those mpg numbers in the 20-30 mph cross winds I have dealt with most of the time since October.

But to be fair, i have no doubt that Dice gets pretty good mpg. He is serious about things. My hope is that the glider truck I have on order will produce some serious 8+ mpg averages year round.

If everyone quit hauling cheap freight we might be able to get the rates up where no one had to worry so much about fuel mileage. When I used to run south I was always light from TORONTO to LA but heavy on the return, I say heavy but light 60 to 70 gross, now I am near 90 all the time. My 98 w900 L did not know what going slow meant and still got near to 7 mpg average now with more hp and heavy loads average is abt 5 to 5.5 mpg US depending on the wind. 98 W900L 6TS 601 HP 2050 torque 18 speed 3.55 rears 24.5 tall rubber, soon to get C18 marine injectors, all the power I need for what I pull. From VANCOUVER to CALGARY in 50 minutes less than the company trucks without speeding. But the days running south with good roads 2 log books and checks for a month around $25,000.00 after fuel + insurance before 9-11 are long gone now I am lucky to clear 8 to 9,000.00 in a month so it seems like peanuts. tom
