There was a person dead in the middle of the rest area on GA 85 North close to exit 77

A cop flew past me and about 5 minutes down the road I saw the cops had the rest area blocked off and at the exit, there was a man dead with his shirt off in the middle of the road. There was a gun next to his hand and look like he had a bunch of gunshots in his chest. Right down the next exit, there were more cops blocking off another exit and this time about six or seven of them had guns drawn at a 18-wheeler parked off the side of the exit.

I just passed by all of this. Interested to see what the story is

According to the West Point Police Department, on July 9, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a call for service referencing a welfare check of what witnesses believed to be a person lying in the roadway near the Georgia Welcome Center exit onto 85 northbound. Officers arrived on the scene and found an unresponsive Hispanic male with a single gunshot wound to the chest area.

According to WPPD Public Information Officer Cedarious Thomas, the victim has not yet been identified. “No confirmed identification yet as he did not appear to be a local resident from the immediate area or have any positive identification on him at the time,” Thomas said.
