I'm not smart enough to know all the details but they want to switch to saliva testing, saying it's more accurate in telling how recently you've done drugs.
To me that makes it more usable in the future then the fear of having it linger in your system for 30 days, with seemingly most states legalizing it and feds will soon I'm sure would test like these allow drivers to enjoy a off duty weekend time like off duty beer time?
I haven't smoked in years but with it being legal and things like edibles etc. I wouldn't mind partaking once in a blue moon birthday or holiday etc...
There's a bill advancing to change CDL drug testing.

I feel the general consensus among the folks on TTR from what I've read is that if one feels the need to dabble with drugs, legal or not, then this isn't the profession for them to consider or even be in.

Don't get too excited yet. While the rule change to allow saliva testing goes into effect in about a month there are not any DOT certified labs that can process the tests yet, nor is it mandatory to use saliva so urine will remain the test of choice for the foreseeable future.
Another consideration, there are different detection thresholds within saliva testing and the sensitivity of the test may have parameters that will detect longer term use than just a day or two, still effectively rendering use of any THC containing product problematic.
Lastly, I am sure US DOT has thought about this and has set the parameters to a level that will still detect most marijuana use to remain compliant with the prohibition on such use. I don't see the Federal government removing it from Schedule 1 anytime soon, at least not until their is a reliable field intoxication test which is years away from development. While most of society seems to find marijuana socially acceptable as they do with alcohol, the Feds still have not warmed up to it. -
I would love this for the sole fact that I hate peeing on command. I always get called for a random right after I empty everything out.
Gearjammin' Penguin and trips74 Thank this. -
Again I haven't smoked in years and I feel if feds our gonna allow it to be legal then the thoughts of us so called professionals should be able to partake responsible of course but I already know there will be a handful that will or already have ruined that idea -
The big difference is that dope smokers never seem to understand that THC stays detectable for a long time and yet they think if they whine hard enough and long enough then using it will not get them fired or they won't lose their license. They don't call it dope for no reason.

Always thought this summed it up rather easily

The whole drug testing system is a joke!
Should be random testing at weight stations..
Anyone think notifying the carrier quarterly and allowing up to three months to send a driver for a test is a good system?
Ever hear of an owner op with own authority getting popped, lol.
The whole point of this saliva test is to eliminate drivers from bringing in someone else’s urine..Aamcotrans, shanman, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this.
