When I was being processed to go drive in Iraq, they took a DNA swab on everyone. For if DNA was needed to identify our remains in case we bit the big one. Told us that when we processed out at the end, that the DNA sample would be destroyed. Lol. I'm sure it is a Federal database(s).RockinChair Thanks this.

This is not a bill. This is already a done deal. The FMCSA has already published the final rule on it and it will likely take effect before years end.The Green Mountain, brian991219 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

When can I start smoking again? Fire it up!!! I haven’t partaken in 37 years. A 6 pack of beer a half pint of Whiskey to go with it. I voted to Legalize it, though no longer use it. I know plenty who still do, and now they’re senior citizens. People should be able to make their own choices. Not everyone is a dope fiend or alcoholic. Even if they are, it’s their choice. Personally I don’t miss it at all. I like being fully coherent at all times. But overall it’s fairly harmless. Too many people locked up for petty BS charges.

When I was on probation for possession in the 90's I had to go to a class. One study they referenced has stuck with me. They had pilots fly in a simulator legally drunk and as expected they failed on the landing. 12 hours after the last drink they did just fine. They did the same test with weed. They failed the landing while stoned. 12 hours after smoking, they said that they felt alert and capable of flying but they failed the landing again. Based on the results of that particular study, motor skills remain compromised even after the user no longer feels high. That's constant with what you're saying.tscottme, REO6205, TheLoadOut and 2 others Thank this.

Honestly like I said I haven't smoked in years, but supposedly had snacked on some edible stuff unknowingly but didn't feel anything from that so not really sure. Unfortunately there's a few in my life that do this to things but they know I can't have the stuff in my system but this was just a mistake at the time.
But it's incidents like this where I'm shocked not happening more often.
Again though when I was smoking back in my 20s before CDL I led a perfectly functional life, I worked and played etc. Obviously now I don't believe I would smoke if presented to me knowing if I had to drive a semi say12 hours later but two or three days before driving I feel would be a different story. Again haven't tried the legal weed so I don't know effects or potency but sorry if there gonna let it be recreationally legal we should be able to smartly partake the same as drinking alcohol. -
they’ve thought about nothing….

I'm gonna wait till retirement to partake again.
I am a product of the sixties and started trucking in the seventies.
Got into trucking because there were no random tests.
I do know that most all that alter the mind and/or body are much more powerful/potent than what was available back then. I've been in a couple dispensaries in NV and MI and that weed is not your father's weed. Not to mention any pills or powder in today's market that might be mixed with that fentanyl kinda scares the heck outta me.
The industry tests at a 50% rate as is but the level of unprofessional operation and total lack of awareness by drivers, who if are not under the influence, is maybe a sign we need more training and a more stringent licensing process instead of more testing.
That said I don't have any problems with anyone doing anything on their own time at home.
But allowing use on a 10 or 34 in the truck could lead to bad decisions.
Maybe a saliva test could indicate level of impairment and/or ability to roll legally if under DOT drug test cutoff guidelines.tscottme Thanks this. -
Just remember this, a company can have stricter standards if they are paying for the test. Nothing stopping them from having a zero tolerance policy on drug use, just like they can with alcohol.

They can watch you submit a saliva sample in a doctors office so it would be nearly impossible to cheat, where as with collecting urine there are privacy/civil liberty concerns that make it uncomfortable or inappropriate especially in mixed gender situations, which is most of the time in my experience. I know guys who smoked who've cheated whiz quizzes with synthetic urine tucked into their sock so it's a flawed testing procedure anyway. They should develop a way of roadside testing for marihuana impairment and lay off with the paranoid witch hunting, but that's my more libertarian take on the matter even though I've never seen the appeal of that particular substance. (I even dislike the smell of it.)RockinChair and Concorde Thank this.
