Just purchased property in the trees.

Local cable provider is maxed out... they figure 6 months to a year for a hook up (basically somebody has to die or move out). And they are unwilling to upgrade/expand the existing system

Cellular providers don't want to do a true unlimited plan for the house.

Can't see the microwave internet transmitter on the mountain cause of the neighbors trees.

Equatorial geostationary satellites are very marginal where I am (between Portland, OR and Seattle) Need to mount the dish on a tower on top of the shop to get over the southern neighbors trees.

My choices as I see it are build a tower to get over the trees for Microwave or use Satellite.

If his net becomes available up this way I would be inclined to use it.

Sounds like paradise. No internet, no phone, no T.V.

The gooberment is pushing to get america completely covered. I think the year was 2020. But who knows for all the rural places. A lot of players are in the 5g race. Not just the cell carriers.

Satellite is soon to be obsolete technology so i wouldn't go that route. ATT will soon be pushing their satellite customers to the dtvnow app.

If you can get dsl through your phone line. At least 10 mbps. There are all kinds of streaming tv services that can be had on roku, amazon fire stick, apple.

Dishnetwork owns sling. Att owns directv. PSvue, Youtube tv are the major players, but there's tons of services.

The only drawback is the locals. That means going back to the dinosaur days of antannae. And buying some equipment to record your local shows. Although everything is ondemand through some type of app anyways.

Only thing i use the antanne for is the local news. Everything else comes through some app using the internet.

We actually use the internet for more than Forum trolling, T.V., and porn.

Well at least the wife does. She is a contractor doing editing work on textbooks so needs a modern up and download rate to transfer text books up and down.

We also do online gaming with voice chat channels so that 10mbps dsl line was not even on our list.......

We're figuring on looking again at the cell carriers, But my bet is we will end up on current satellite then grow toward this new satellite stuff.

Youtube is the only service that has the locals around here. For some reason abc and cbs won't jump on board with the other services. nbc and fox is all that's available.

I have directvnow. And to be honest. I don't even know why i have it. Other then watching my regular tv shows ondemand. I don't even use service. Signed up with sling thinking maybe i'd use that since they got dvr but NOPE. Paid for 2 months and never even opened up the app.

I get 3 out of four locals with an indoor antenna. Plus Decades, AntennaTV, Movies, and a few others. The rest I stream from PlutoTV and YubiTV apps with Chromecast. I just dropped Netflix after 6 years.

Paying for 200 cable channels a month is just a bad habit. I thought I would miss ESPN, but I don't miss that or any other cable program.
