Filled out a few applications online and was truthful about my past from 17 years ago. Three companies have called me back and told me that I donnot have any convictions on file that they can locate? All wanted to know when I wanted to show up and do the refresher course. Still worried about it ( dont want to show up and get my walking papers) called back the companies and tell them my past is from another state not the one I live in now. One company says that must be the issue and we will call you back, the other two companies puff out there chest and keep rambling on about how accurate there information is they received. First company calls me back today and says we checked the other state out and you showing no charges.
Just for a brief moment I thought that maybe my past was the past and poof it went away. Okay after that brief moment in wonderland I came back to reality and started to look into this. Jumped on the internet and went to the county I was convicted in all those years ago, and to my sadened eyes was my name and the convictions. How could I find something for free about me in ten minutes, and they payed who knows how much for bogus information, when I gave them all the proper information? I have a feeling this happens more often than we know.
Last thing. For some reason there are so many people on this board that just lay in waiting to pounch on someone that posts on here they have a record and are trying to find a company that will take them. Granted there have been a few bone heads on here that probably deserved a reality check. Not everyone is a drup dealer, seller, user, or into little kids. Me personally I was drag racing at 16 (not drunk) went around a curve to fast and lost controll of my car and rolled it several times. The were other kids in the car with me that I had knownsince I could walk. when I woke up in the hospital there was a deputy standing over me telling me life as I knew it was over. He was right, and to this day almost 20 years later I still wish it was me instead of them.
Good luck to you out there that have learned from your past, and keep moving forward.
They can't find my record at all?

ok so 20 years ago you had an accident and unfortunately lives were lost. I realize that this is obviously still a touchy subject for you, but we have to understand if we can help. Were you charged for vehicular manslaughter or something like that. And were you tried as a minor?
I had dui's fall off of my mvr that were 20 years old which is why I now have a clean mvr. I dont know if anything I said has helped, and if you would rather not divulge anymore info that is understandable.
I wish you luck driver that is something I am glad that I never had to live with -
That record could be sealed with some exceptions since you were under 18 at the time.
Where did you turn up the record when you did your search? Did you have to enter any specific info to access it? -
If it happened, list it.
If they can't find it...then it's their problem.
That's how I see it............
Good Luck,
it'll work out !!!!Lilbit, rocknroll nik and Big Don Thank this. -
Great point Hippy or is that Mr. Hippy? As long as you put it down they cannot get you for lying or omitting it. I do wish the original poster good luck on a new start.

I was charged as an adult and ended up doing a negotiated amount of time. To find the information all I did was type my name in the search case info section on the circuit clerks website in the county that it happened.
My life is good and really can't complain, Have two kids, wife that cooks good, small farm here in the hills and a good little business. Timed seemed right to try over the road. -
They may have done a nationwide or statewide search rather than a county search which could of possibly caused it not to show up. The county level is usually where you find the information when it's missing from other databases like you did. This is why some background check services send out an investigator to 1 county of your choice as part of the fee to do an in-person search of the records at the county courthouse or wherever the records may be stored.

There are companies out there that will fuss with you, no doubt. There are other companies that DO look at the length since the conviction and see no issues with it. All you can do is be up front ( as you have been) and let them do what they are suppose to do.
I feel for the weight you carry with you. Good to see that you have built a good life anyway.
Good luck in your search. -
OK, you did something stupid 20 years ago. When you were a 16 year old kid. Other kids died as a result of your stupidity.
I'm sure you have punished yourself far more than any type of outside influence could ever do. The fact is that kids do stupid things. Most of us have gotten by with it, without it resulting in the death of someone else. And that can be put down to one thing only. LUCK.
IMHO, you need to keep "doin' what you're doin'" as far as listing this as an arrest and conviction. Any company that rejects you for it, well, figure it as their loss.
As long as you list it, they can't come back on you and fire you for lying on your application. Also LOOK at what the application is asking you. If it states something like list any convictions within the past 10 years, then that is what they are looking at. They don't care what happened 11 or more years ago. Of course if they ask if you have EVER been convicted - - -
I have serious doubts that this is going to be that much of a problem for your getting hired, twenty years after the fact. Particularly if you have kept your nose clean since then, and have a good employment record. These folks are far more concerned with your basic honesty than they are with a juvenile driving record. Even if it is one of vehicular manslaughter.
Good luck. -
Have been accepted to two of the bottom feeders for the refresher course. Called a couple other companies and they said no right off the bat. That I can understand and deal with it. For people on here that due have a record, companies will look at you but there has to have been a few years since your conviction.
Big Don and thelastamericanhippy Thank this.
