Yes! I would be interested to do their local P&D stuff. I think they got a hub in Grand Prairie that's pretty close to me.

FYI, it's best not to randomly show up to a FedEx Freight terminal to ask about a job. You probably won't be able to get in, and even if you do, there's nothing the local management can do about your application until it gets screened and passed on by corporate HR. You'll know when that happens because they'll call you to make sure you read the job description and to give details on the pay rates.

2 years ago, your phone would have been ringing off the hook (showing my age here when phones actually rang off hooks. Or did they?). A year ago, you probably would have gotten a call or two. Now? It's slow going in freight so alot of outfits have circled the wagons and battened down the hatches as far as hiring goes. Especially with winter around the corner and the traditional post-holiday slowdown looming. Most companies taking apps are just getting a pool of guys in the system in case they need to hire when things pickup.

That doesn't mean you can't land a gig. There's always guys retiring, getting hurt, moving, transferring to linehaul, getting fired, etc especially in p&d. It's just that there isn't that huge demand for LTL drivers as there was a few years back. And even if you manage to get hired, as bottom man you'll most likely get hit with slow hours, days off, etc.

Right now, your best bet is probably looking like springtime or so. Hopefully things will pickup by then.

Yep thats when i was looking into getting into trucking. I would be delivering with my pickup truck to places and talk to driver at saia fedex freight etc. They always said they needed drivers and looking on their website they had ads looking for drivers. I'll go up to Saia tomorrow and see what they say and keep trying to keep an eye out for applications. I kinda want to move to Colorado (denver area) because i enjoy it there and they seem to need drivers too...
