Newbies always seem caught off guard by what they weren't told and think they should have been told at Orientation and during the recruiting romance. Does it seem like the new OTR life is like a marriage with a combination Jekyll and Hyde/PT Barnum/Music Man all rolled into one??
"Oh, yeah, sure," said Sven to Ollie.
Experienced drivers get tired of hearing all the complaints, the same ones over and over again. Maybe we could sum it up and get it all in one can... err, thread.
'They don't tell you THAT in Orientation!!"

You could probably change most of the comments to "I didn't hear that during orientation", or "That's not how I understood it".
-
Geez ... I never pay any attention to anything during orientation.
Normally too hungover after taking the piss test....
All I want is to get it over with and get rolling....
Anything I need to know I'll ask someone who knows... another driver...
Most of the people doing orientation don't have a clue anyway...
Good thread though Victor.....The Challenger and Meltom Thank this. -
Sorry for complaining,

OMG The Leash! BUZZZZZ Alarms going off truck shaking! QC says "Are you sleeping?" no I'm sitting here waiting for another message half way into my 10 hour break! they "Just wanted to be sure you knew the appointment was moved up by 5 hours we are thinking you can still make it the next 650 miles in that truck governed at 61 in 10.5 hours with you taking your 1/2 hour break after you stop at the TA and get the Mud Flap fixed. " And Then "If you have any questions call dispatch in the morning when you finish your 10" Bah Ha Ha I got these all of the time! and finally told them when they dispatched the load, Don't change it as it is set and I'm planning accordingly!

Fresh out of school, I show up at the company yard (a dirt lot behind McDonald's where all the local O/Os park, and where Con-Way leaves their empty doubles) for my orientation. Which consists of catching a set of keys tossed at me, being told to hook up to the MT 53' van and take it down to the shop to get brakes put on it while he finds me a load to haul...
Leash? Last Tuesday I was fired for turning down a Wednesday load that would put me away from my girlfriend's house for Thanksgiving. Monday I booked myself a load and have been running ever since - not another word was said about it.
