People wouldn't be road blocks. They'd simply be more relaxed knowing they're getting paid to be out here.

I don't consider tailgating, speeding and other behaviors I see TODAY to be safe or relaxing.

I had a parking lot pass me today doing 84 in a 70. That crap is so unsafe. AND it was raining.

There are a lot of trucking jobs that already pay $88k or more a year. Heck, Walmart starts at $110k. A company that pays $88k+ a year is going to pay that whether it’s hourly + OT or straight mileage. The specific pay scheme doesn’t really matter. Companies that currently pay $60k are not all the sudden going to absorb a pay increase to $88k. It just won’t happen.

Take Schneider for example. They’ve been moving drivers to hourly pay or a combination of mileage + hourly for all on-duty time. They can now truly say drivers are “paid for everything they do.” What is the end result? A lot of drivers are now making less than they were before. It won’t be any different if all companies are forced to pay OT.

Do you not know what overtime means? Might help your math if you did.

I do like the ideal of them paying overtime myself or at the bare min have a salary. I think it should be like every other job in America. Some employers try to use that law in other industries and still money from the employees that way. I feel like if you are gonna be working you need to be paid for it.

And If the companies set the wage to low at least you know what you will be getting paid. I seen a lot of new guys start out and not come close to what they was told they would get paid. With hourly pay they could easily calculate the pay and know for sure what they should be making. This will never happen in my eyes because the big guys would not allow it to happen.

No it wouldn't be nice.Your idea of a 'relaxing drive' may be far different from mine. I find it relaxing to do the speed my in car or truck that just feels right, regardless of posted limits. Because now everyone would be driving UNDER the already too slow posted speed limit. A limit not picked by actual scientific data, but by some arbitrary number some Karen thinks is appropriate for a highway.
Now, I'm not advocating for recklessly removing speed limits, just for upping the limits where appropriate, given the new technology that current trucks and cars have.

We need less laws and mandates in this country. And this requiring of any employer to pay employees a certain way, is just one more nail in freedom's coffin.

Here in Springfield Mo there is a job for garbage man that no one wants.
It pays $20.00 an hour plus benefits and home every night.
No one wants it and you can live pretty well here on 20 an hour.
So in my opinion a class A with all the hazard involved should be $30 an hour.
But with three or four million new drivers coming across the border I doubt pay will go up

I just like the flawed math of maxing out your 70 for 52 weeks a year to make the hourly wage appear lower to support what they’re wanting to say.

If you don’t feel that you’re fairly compensated now then go find a job where you feel you are paid fairly. There are lots of jobs that pay hourly for driving, why does the government need to hold your hand to help you?
