Which one? 1st one takes me back to the 70s, when peeling off a trip lease sign would take the paint off. For some it was a badge of honor how many they had stuck to the door. The littering is pretty bad, but what do you expect coming from a toilet where they came from. Kudos to the driver pulling the pup through the mud, THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT,
,,the others, meh, just another busy day,,

From the FMCSA
Trip leasing often results in liability being shifted to the operating carrier. In short, any motor carrier that uses a driver—even for a single trip—is required to comply with all applicable Federal Regulations under 49 CFR, including but not limited to driver qualification and drug & alcohol testing requirements.
Yes, many people engage in trip leasing, but that doesn’t make it legal. The operating carrier remains fully responsible and assumes all associated liability, including compliance with driver qualification and drug & alcohol regulations under 49 CFR
Just signing a short term lease doesn't make trip leasing legal unless all the steps are completed.
Not like it was in the 70's-80's.201 Thanks this. -
Boy howdy, that should be on a billboard somewhere. I remember, trip leasing was upstairs in the back of a 76, with a chalkboard and loads listed. Trip leasing was merely a way to get fuel money to get back home, and you'd always get a cash advance, because many times that's all you'd see. I remember trucks that had stacks of trip lease stickers, it was no big deal, as long as you were legal weight, not many scales cared. Back then, I probably hauled many loads I probably shouldn't have, many still upset about deregulation. Sometimes you were better off not putting the sticker on.‘Olhand Thanks this.

Back in the day operating authority was limited, that’s why people trip leased. Either to haul the commodity or to run a specific area. My grandpa hauled the fuel to a local gas station. He and dad owned the tanker but didn’t have authority or insurance to transport fuel so he had to trip lease every time he went to Mitchell after a load of fuel.
Nowadays “trip leasing” is mostly fraudulent. Double brokered loads. Companies not set up with Amazon. Gaining a fresh log book. Etc
