They want 5 years of tax returns before I can start working for them !?!?!?!

Especially if they have been self-employed for a period of time.

 

Wrong. They are required to verify any job plus any unemployment in the last three years and they want to make sure your not hiding something like showing that you were unemployed on the app but you were really in jail. When you call some companies especially the major ones they have you call some hot line that charges a fee and then only gives dates of employment. That is how the druggies and some idiots still get driving jobs because their past doesn't always follow them around, some companies are afraid of lawsuits for telling the truth on a bad driver and then you have companies that tell lies about good drivers. Hell companies lie, drivers lie nothing new, nothing is going to change.

 

Larger companies use third party companies to handle pre-screening and employment verification for the simple reason of having a single place for people to contact. Larger companies are afraid of being sued for speaking poorly about a previous employer so they don't. That is also why they use a third party to do the verification even if a person is a great employee. I had problems getting employment verified because I worked for the department of defense for so many years and then for a major phone company. Both do not verify thier own employment. Actually my supervisors no longer worked at one place and the other took an act of congress to reach.

 

Then why has the last 3 companies(i have only worked for three and i am 41) rule #1 do not talk about what you make with anybody.
That would seem private.

I have worked for 23 years from 18 to 41 ,no lay-offs .
I have worked my ### off,my last company cut our hours from 40-50 down to 12-20 in one year my credit suffered.
Hell the banks the car companies nearly went belly up.
You can't ever tell someone that you haven't seen ,talked or lived ,or walked in their shoes .
It isn't about the tax reports because i have gave that info,but i do have a problem with you saying someone are more likely thieves because their credit sucked.
This is a person that has had his identity stolen from giveing out my social on the computer(a job)
I know jobs are hard to come by but be careful what you give to people.

probably because they were either ripping you off or your co workers off....If you dont tell each other how much you make you'll never find out that guy that started a year after you is makeing $5 more an hour then you.

One more thing,the only reason i would think they would need your w-2 is because they can't verify all of your past jobs.

I applied for a job one time and talked to my current employer at the time and my past employers ,that another place may call them and ask questions about me(gave them the heads up).
Hell i signed a note to the place i had still was working for (14 years) that they could answer any question.
All places where still actual companies.
Guess what they never called any of them,they wanted all my tax info??
I told them all places where ok to call,and they said they couldn't get ahold of them(a lie) the past employer even called them and told them he was more than willing to talk to them (he of course had to leave a message)
NOTHING.
If a company won't do there job then i don't want it,esp when they never told me this until 2 weeks later.
I guess i am glad i told them that cause they shut that plant down(lol)

My deal is i went through hoops and they where not up front with me .
I would rather work for a little less and know what comeing at me than deal with changeing sheet

Sorry to post so much about this subject,but i have dealt with this bull.
Aguy who started with me at my job had a college degree in with the boss,great credit etc.
The police came and took him away from stealing cases of IBP Meat (high dollar stuff)they had him on film ,again sorry that should have been in the post above ,when the guy says your pretty much not trustworthy because your credit is bad(lol)
