Seems like You do dry van spot loadboard freight (same like me).I would be very careful with buying new(er) equipment now.Get in touch with somebody who does that type of work in Your region and ask questions. Also do You have reefer and open deck experience?
-
Thanks for your response. I have had just a little exp with reefer ,and flatbed.
-
Hi freight-time, no question, flat bed. While they may be a little harder to load, I wouldn't pull a reefer again if my life depended on it. Flatbed has so many advantages over a box, people generally need what you are bringing, no pallets or warehouses to deal with, generally, not ball-buster loads, like with a reefer ( which are heavy empty to begin with) and just a lower frustration factor. ( not to say, there aren't ugly flatbed loads, but not too often) If you ever have a question how to load something, do what I did, just look at how the other drivers do it. If you go with a reefer, consider yourself warned. Good luck.

I was also thinking about switching and getting a Conestoga. Would it be a good idea to get that or just regular flatbed will do?
-
I would love a Conestoga but it will limit what you can haul. If you had dedicated freight I could see it being benificial but if you're hauling whatever you can find it will limit you.
DUNE-T Thanks this. -
What chewy said. A conestaga would be awesome on certain dedicated accounts. But for general stuff you find off the load boards, not a good idea. Most shippers don't want to fool with them cause they think they will be difficult to load. I bet if you put a hundred shippers in a room only five of them will know a conestaga is not a curtain side van. or they think it's a covered wagon so only five foot tall.

I think, and I may be wrong, a step would give you the biggest range of loads.
DUNE-T and freight-time Thank this.
