I'm leaving for CDL school in about a month. What are some things to do before I leave? What are some things to consider before leaving?

Make sure you have all the paper work you could possibly need. DL, birth certificate, s.s card, copies of those for spouse, marriage lic( or divorce papers or both if applicable) Even if they said you don't need them take them anyway. Even though you are just going to school, take your work history with you.

Just me, but I would plan my packing like I was getting a job strait from the class room. Meaning take only what you would need as a trainee rideing in someone elses truck. Cloths for a week, toiletries, beding ( sleeping bag is best, you can use duffle as a pillow) . Shower bag, a small backpack works well, shower shoes or just invest in anti-fungle cream.

I would have at least 3 companies lined up to go to after school. Pre-screening. Call them now, find out if they are hireing out of your area and what their rate is. School re-imbursement. Don't discount small local companies for the mega-carriers, just because of stuff you read or hear. You don't know unless you ask. Logging copanies, silage, peanuts haulers, watermelons, 6 months of seasonal work is 6 months experience and could net a much better "real" job than simpley going at them strait outa school.
