I don't think anyone should take w900's post as a personal attack. Not long ago I would have but, in the short time I've been on the road, I've already learned that the truth can be a harsh thing (but sometimes it's better that way).
Scott, truckers are held to a much higher standard of driving than the rest of the motoring public (sometimes even the cops). Not only are we not given much slack (if any) but we're even held solely responsible for accidents in which no other type of driver would've been blamed (if it happened to them). Because of that reason alone we have to be better behind the wheel than pretty much anyone else out there.
What makes achieving that goal even tougher is the fact that truck driving has quite a learning curve associated with it. You've got your CDL, you can float gears, back into a tight slot and can do a PTI in your sleep. Think you've got this job down pat?
Guess again.
Every day it seems I run into another situation which reminds me of how much I don't yet know. At this point I consider myself just a steering wheel holder. I'm getting better week by week, but it's going to take a few more years before I even feel comfortable calling myself a trucker. Yeah, there's really that much to learn. I guess I'm doing okay so far: I reached a personal milestone after my 7th month of OTR (considering that a huge number of noobs quit or get fired after an average of 6 months). They're not kidding when they say this career isn't for everyone.
But, until I accumulate some real experience, I'll happily take advice anywhere I can get it - even if that medicine isn't so sweet going down.
Things you need to think about....

Some people take a different approach though. And normally that takes a trip to Wal-Mart to get a new jar of vagesil.
Now back to your regular scheduled bashing of REDD with a 2 pound sledge & a miniskirt!JustSonny Thanks this. -
The best thing you can know about trucking is the day you think you know everything about it, is the day you need to quit.

You misspelled Vagisil buddy!
We're still gonna go in halves on a 55 gallon drum of it for OBGYN's birthday...Right?JustSonny Thanks this. -
