I’d never laugh. I know it happens.
Friend of mine had a m22 4speed “swapped” out for a m21 in his ‘69 Vette at an upolstery shop once.
I’ve seen and heard of things getting swapped out on big trucks all the time. The one with me was a factory radio with cd player. Same radio. But my cd worked and the one they “swapped” in didn’t. They even preset all my stations and set clock. The way i new it wasn’t mine was the date tag on back of radio was after my truck was built and I already had it. This happened at a Freightliner shop too. As usually the case couldn’t proove it.
Sounds to me like someone wanted an od trans and the ops truck had what they were looking for.
Think I got swindled.....transmission

They can pull the switcheroo easy and in the same amount of time it takes for a clutch replacement even if a guy could do it in an hr. They pull your trans out to do clutch and just roll it to the side. Roll the “replacement” which most likely was sitting on the floor in storage already anyway, but even if not it just goes back up with the new clutch. Lickady split. Nothing hard about it.
