Anyone that will refuse to actually sell you a truck for cash is no-one to do business with. If they are trying to force you into a lease with them then they are going to screw you.
Thinkin about gettin in lease purchase. Any suggestions?

It is possible to make it with a lease/purchase from a carrier, but it is like walking through a field of land mines. I'm in a straight forward deal with everything in black and white including what is considered a default that could keep me from purchasing the truck. Most companies can be eliminated just from their ads. A couple of examples would be a full maintenance lease and truck payments based on mileage instead of a flat weekly or monthly amount. Not trying to be sarcastic, but if you don't know the downside to both of those programs you aren't ready to make the jump into your own truck.
Most of the full maintenance programs allow the company to tell you when and where to get your truck worked on. In other words they charge you extra to let them treat your truck as a company truck. The issue about mileage based versus fixed truck payments is a little more complicated. They advertise it as "no truck payments while your truck is sitting." The flip side is that the more you run the higher your truck payment. If you know how to run your business, then your fixed payments are budgeted so that being home isn't an issue. In my case after 900 to 1100 miles a week all my fixed truck expenses are covered and I'm into pretax gross profit. (Yes that figure includes my variables such as fuel and maintenance as well.)Lonesome Thanks this. -
A few places ( CONWAY ) have REVAMPED their LEASE DEALS , it is not based on the MILES actually driven per month , not on a set monthly fee.
Other than doing a lot of reaearch , and having some $ set aside , and do not decide to take a month off the day after you get YOUR
truck , do not buy out the TRUCK junk aisle at the T/A , get a useable truck not a IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS large car it is possible to make it work.

I'm with them, no way from a carrier. ( I did Midwestern dollar down starting out ) If you must then Lone Mountain looks good if you pick the right unit. No Cats, no Volvos and nobody's proprietary motor and no Mercedes, shy away from automatics and buy on the hub. Lower the miles the better. Avoid super singles too.
Pay a local dealer to check it out and have it DOT'ed before you sign. Run the unit through the NADA commercial side for value too.
FYI: 06 and 07 ex Maverick century and columbia units with mid 400's and 8 new drives are being had in Houston for the mid to upper 30's. The come mixed with 10's and autos and a Detroit 455. Shy away from the recent JB Hunt group cut loose. Equiped and priced the same way we've had problems with those and by all means don't buy the Freightliner warranty. It's garbage ! We lost an engine under this warranty and had to pay 5k to get it back.
Good luck and JMOformertaxidriver Thanks this. -
Do yourself a favor and DONT DO IT!! I know you may like the idea of having your own truck, running where you want when you and all of that but I'm telling you. When you lease a truck you are setting yourself up for heart break. There are some who make it work but the vast majority of those who do lease lose there butts!
Dont do it but if you do.....dont say you weren't warned! -

What the HECK is there left in the 5 year old or newer that most fleets are looking for an O/O to have to sign on with.
