I'm sure you guys and gals get asked this question a lot, but I have been thinking about getting into the business. And I am looking for a little advice. I live in the SLC area and have been looking into CR England which offers a training program which seems pretty good but there's always a but. It looks like the way to make good money is to become a trainer with them. Anyone have any input about this company? My other question is that I am 49 years old and I am in good health with a perfect driving record, am I to old to think about getting into this field? I have kinda of a dead end job now and have always wanted to drive a rig for some odd reason. Am I crazy?![]()

Roehl is the same way in terms of making the "big money" it seems like all companys want are driver trainers.
in my opinion.. you can still make decent money w/o being a trainer. i know i aint gonna be one. i dont play well with others and i dont share my home/truck.
also ive seen drivers out here from ages 21 to 81 so if you can be an ol' dog that can learn new tricks i see no reason why you couldnt/shouldnt do it.
althou i dont know how much my opinions are worth, i only started myself augest 31st 2007. i mainly reply to "should i" topics because as a student-to-solo driver and having recently made the transition i figured i can best advise in the transitioning (from boring dead end job to exciting adventurous career) -
Just remember, not everyone can teach. And teach while your trainee is piloting a deadly weapon down the highway. I was a driver trainer for cars and teenagers, very different I know, but the idea is the same. That trainee holds your life, your future in his hands. How much do you trust him? How calm can you remain in times of crisis?

thedefan, I am a current student here in MN, 3 weeks to go, and in my class there are several guys in their 50's. From all walks of live and past job experiences. I can't see why you couldn't be one also. Just do your research, on companies and schools/training. Best of luck!

I would stay away from CR at all cost!

49 isn't to old, I'm 47 and know this is what I want to do. Just waiting for the school to come through for me. I have no intention of going to school for a company, so far I've learned its not always the best choice.
JUst make sure this is what you want and go for it. Also do a lot of research. -
Good point!! Thanks

On average how long are most of you away from home? And how much can I expect to make?

with roehl i have 3 basic home time options 7-10 = 2 days, 11-14 = 3 days 14-21 = 4 days and pretty much a month = 7 days off.
however they have 7/4-7/3 (out 7 off 4 out 7 more off 3) and 7/7 (out 7 home 7)
personly i prefer 11-14 home 3. after the 14th day im pretty well stressed/worn out -
SLC, is unbalanced with lds. Going in is easier then getting out.
So reefer will help, with option of pulling dry out. Thats CR Englands plus.
Now there negative, just from talking to prior drivers, they will push u in2
a lease, then when your starving, they will push u 2 train.
you will not be ready for this, so stay company. Dont let em talk u in2 lease.. After 6 months r so if u dont do lease and feel your not getting miles, jump ship 2 Knight.. Good Luck 2 U!
