I have the RM 530 and dont have too many problems with it. I have had it freeze and have white screen before but holding down the reset button on the back would get it back to normal.
After it is charged i unplug it from the charger and never had the problem again. It only happens if it is plugged into the charger for too long after it's fully charged.
I never update it either...maybe i should. But i use Google earth also so i dont soley rely on the GPS.

I used my 720 for over 2 1/2 years and left it plugged in at all times, it was very rare that it locked up and I had to do the reset button each time, maybe 4 times in 2.5 years.

I use a USB output current detector that measures the current going to the gps unit , when the light is read it will draw up to 1.4 amps but going down the road green light it is around .7 amp at 5.1 volts.

I have never had such problems with a GPS like this before. I was in line turning it in and the driver behind me said he went through 3 of them.
Another driver long time friend of mine said when he bought the 730 the first one did not work so he went right back in and swapped it out, that one has worked ever since, with a few reset's needed now and then.

I could deal with an occasional lock up. But not over and over one of the unit's did it twice going through down town loop in Chicago.

I have had this one since 1/21/16 and it resets very often not a problem going down the big road but if you in town and have several turns to destination that could be a problem. I will trade this unit in today if the truck stop has any more of them.

Work with me on the current one you have. I know this issue of freezing is a deep issue and RM has spend many weeks trying to track it down. It is not easily reproducible.

If you don't mind and if you have your computer with you I can get you to sign an NDA and I can get you on a Beta Version to see if your issues stop.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,
My 720 has bogus speed limit info. Obviously the muni or state changed it so how old is your info on speed limits?

just click the upper speed limit sign when you are going the correct speed (within a 2 mph it will round it off) and it will make a note of it , then when you hook your gps to the dock you can send the info to Rand Mcnally and at some point it will be corrected in the future.
sometimes MM's are off you can click the MM part and do the same thing there

    chalupa and thaistick Thank this.

I'm curious what guys/gals are finding is the average lifespan for a RM unit? I've had three units over the past five years, and every one has had numerous issues. I like lots of the features they have, but the darn things seem to have way too many issues and it gets old to keep shipping them back to RM for repair. Any suggestions?

For long stretches RM adjusts them in quarterly update, but for the smaller areas they are tied to the maps. If you know of an area let me know and I can validate and submit a ticket to RM.

    Thanks,
    mark

Thanks, i'll give that a shot. Might also help to balance the mileage too.

Usually it's off by 5 to 10 mph ( posted vs RM ) . I'll report back in a week or so..

I have an early model from 2009, model T5C I think it is, still working fine, never an issue. Have it in one of my old pickup trucks now.
