I'm a rookie also, but with all my research in SC it looks like I will probably have to do some of my training over the road and then with a couple of company's here, then I could make a choice of local, regional or OTR pending openings.

You're in a good area for regional.and maybe local. There are mega carriers that train that also has day cabs like Werner. They have terminals everywhere and they do train. They have many regionals dedicated and local lanes.Thats something you would have to talk to your recruiter about. But have to warn you Werner doesn't pay all that well but they are real good company to get the experience. You would still have to go out with a trainer for a couple months.

You can get local jobs right out of school but they usually are crappy jobs paying very minimal wages. Not always, but usually. To get one of the good local jobs that pays well you'll probably need between 1-2 years experience.

Minimal as in close to whatever minimum wage is in your state.

I've seen $8-12/hr posted, never checked on any because I knew I couldn't survive on that.

after a couple years experience you can get local jobs in the $20-30/hr range. My brother in law drives for a major dairy and makes $27 I think, plus great benefits.

Yeah, why would you have to gain experience to get top wages as a driver?

Because most of the better companies that have local positions have insurance companies that require experience, from what I've been told by some of them.

There are always exceptions, so just keep looking and trying.
