I'm considering getting my own authority and have questions.

    Firstly, where do I start?

What percentage of each run does the broker usually keep, what do they charge?

How long does it take to get paid?

Do most brokers give a partial advance?

And lastly for now how much does it cost to lease a box from Xtra Lease?

Get someone such as your insurance agent or trucking services agent to do it for you. It was worth it for me to pay an expert to file all the b.s. paperwork. I have them do all my IFTA and other filing too, then all I have to do is the part I enjoy.
I use a small mom and pop dispatch service. Most charge only 5%or so and do much of the work I don't want to anyway. Many brokers charge 20%.uy78\

Payment takes from 3 days to 30 days or more depending on who the dispatcher uses. Of course you have the final say who he uses.
Some such as CH robinson or Landstar do give a fuel advance when you are loaded, which is very nice to have.
Don't know about the box lease, but I believe it would be around 450.00 a month.

It's real easy: go to http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ Have a credit card handy as they will need $300.00 for filling fees. click on middle box/Registration and licensing and start there. you will need to file a MCS-150 or call 800-832-5660 and ask for assistance in filing for your authority or you can go to http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/licensing/agents.htm and have an agent to help you. Shop around because these are from $400 to $800, they will list agents for the US but you can use any state agent as that does not matter. That agent can help you get legal in states you wish to run.

Most time LLC is waste of time for a o/o who is doing his own driving.

Yeah, but the llc will protect your personal assets if you have a lawsuit or file bancruptcy
