My current career path has been rough that last few years been laid off twice in the last 2 years. My current job is low pay no benafits and not looking to promising after a month. I'm starting to think about going into trucking as i enoy the road as when ever I had vacations in the past it meant a week long road trip. I been reading all kinds of info on the industry the last few days I'm looking for some advice on what to look for before checking out any schools and how not to get ripped off from alot of the stories I read begining drivers get ripped off alot from what I understand. So what would be a good company to get with after going to a school?

Here's a few companies you might want to look into. Before deciding on a school, make sure you call the companies your interested in getting hired by to make sure that they hire out of the school.

    Dry Van's:

Watkins Shepard (Has there own school)
Millis (Requires 1yr OTR Experience UNLESS you go threw there school)

    Reefers:

    KLLM
    MAY

    Flatbed:

    Maverick
    Melton

    Good Luck!

Go to an LTL company working dock and get into their driver apprentice program. Nashville is a big hub area for LTL companies.

Why not? It's a lot tougher to get a job in other fields. I'm wondering if trucking will be just as tough to find a job in in about 2 years as any other field.

The market is flooded with new CDL holders. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of schools cranking out new graduates every 4-12 weeks or so.(depending on the school).

Driving a truck for a living is NOT like going on a week long drive while on vacation. Do a lot of research on this site before you make a decision. Driving is not for everyone. I'm not trying to talk you out of anything, I am merely trying to encourage you to make an informed decision before you spend any $$$ on a driving school.

    Endzone Thanks this.

Thanks everyone for your reply's and Mr Rich T I've been looking into it for a bit. Trying to get all the info I need before I do any schooling on becoming a truck driver. I will be making a very well informed choice as I'm looking at several options and this is just one of them.

Good deal. It's always best to get as much info up front as possible before making such an important decision.

    I wish you the best.
